Have High Blood Pressure? Start Stretching

Hypertension (High Blood Pressure) is almost inevitable in today’s society, so finding natural remedies to combat it is a must.

The following information comes from Science Alert.

When trying to lower blood pressure, new research suggests that stretching may be more effective than cardiovascular exercises like walking. Stretching reduces stiffness in your arteries, lessens resistance to blood flow, and improves blood flow to muscles and tissues. It also strengthens connective tissue, improves flexibility, and helps the body adapt to increasing exercises.

Phil Chilibeck, a student of biomechanics and human movement (Kinesiology) at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Canada, stated the following:

“Everyone thinks that stretching is just about stretching your muscles.”

“But when you stretch your muscles, you’re also stretching all the blood vessels that feed into the muscle, including all the arteries.”

The slow, controlled breathing that accompanies stretching may also play a factor in its effect on blood pressure. But more research has to be done.

As someone who puts yoga in his weekly workout regime, I believe this to be true.
