“What is it about us Black people that we’re hated so much? What is it that we as Black people have done to the world to deserve the disrespect that we uniformly experience no matter where you find us on the globe? We are the most exploded and abused race in the history of humanity. And, yet, we are the origins of humanity as we know it.”
– Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao
When it comes to powerful voices on the continent, no one has gotten my attention as fast as Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao. Her message is centered around African sovereignty, and although that’s still problematic for some, many like myself appreciate it. So it’s only right that I share her information with you all.
Dr. Arikana Chihombori-Quao is a Zimbabwean medical doctor, activist, and former African Union’s ambassador to the United States. She was born in Chivhu, Zimbabwe, but later emigrated to the U.S. in 1977. She practices family medicine and is the CEO and founder of Bell Family Medical Centers. Chihombori-Quao’s leadership and activism against French colonialism have garnered her critical acclaim throughout the continent and abroad.
I want to share a lecture of hers where she discusses economic independence for Africa. If you’d like to discuss any of the clip’s content, feel free to comment below.
Until Next Time…
