Metal Gear Solid is Headed to the Big Screen!

As I mentioned in a previous post, playing a video game today is like playing an interactive film. The narrative, cinematography, acting, and music found in any motion picture can be found in this medium. And the first franchise to introduce these traits to the gaming industry, in my opinion, was Metal Gear Solid.

Created/directed by Hideo Kojima and developed by Konami Computer Entertainment, Metal Gear Solid is a stealth action video game that’s received critical and commercial success worldwide. The series follows Special Forces Operative Solid Snake, who’s sent on a series of military assignments. Each mission involves Snake infiltrating different environments, avoiding or taking out enemies with a variety of weapons. At certain points in each game, Snake must face various bosses who typically possess superhuman powers.

Metal Gear Fandom advised that the cinematic cutscenes, storylines, politics, warfare, science, and artificial intelligence set Metal Gear Solid apart from other stealth action genres of its time. And I couldn’t agree more. Of course, as an adolescent playing the games, my only focus was on the gameplay and tactical training. But as an adult, political warfare and A.I. keep my attention.

Many fans, like myself, can look forward to the first Metal Gear Solid movie adaptation in the near future. According to Deadline, MGS is currently in development at Sony Pictures, with actor Oscar Isaac set to play Solid Snake. The film will be based on the 1998 video game Metal Gear Solid, and as of right now, the production start date is unknown.

Upon its release, I’m confident that I’ll be a part of the first wave of viewers. So stay tuned for additional updates.

Until Next Time…
