Child Labor In Ghana

Greetings Folks,

I came across some extremely disturbing news and had to share it with all. The following information comes out of Africa News.

The internal trafficking of children into labor is becoming a major problem in Ghana. Ghanaian children who live in meager conditions are being trafficked from their home villages to work in the fishing industry. The International Justice Mission (IJM) found that 57.6 percent of children work on Southern Lake Volta’s waters. And at least one of five children identified were six years old or younger.

The following has been advised:

Human watchers say Ghana may not attain most of the sustainable development goals if pragmatic steps are not taken to address the wide spread of child trafficking and child labour.

This exploitative act, unless checked and eliminated, attaining SDGs 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8, that seeks to ensure no poverty, no hunger, good health, quality education as well as good jobs and economic growth will continue to elude the country.
