President Buhari Upset With Foreign #EndSARS Media Coverage

In a previous post, the #EndSARS protests to end police brutality in Nigeria was highlighted. Well, their president, Muhammadu Buhari, has responded to the foreign media outlets’ biased coverage.

The following information comes from Business Insider Africa.

President Buhari argues that the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and America’s Cable News Network (CNN) didn’t balance out their #EndSARS coverage by reporting on the Nigerian policemen killed during the protests, the stations burned, or the prisons opened. Private and public property was also destroyed, but none of the outlets covered it. His displeasure for foreign media came weeks after peaceful protesters were met with brute force by the Nigerian police.

In a tweet, the president advised the following:

“I was disgusted by the coverage, which did not give attention to the policemen that were killed, the stations that were burnt, and prisons that were opened.”

Africa having their own sovereign media outlets is imperative at this point.
